The word “hosting” doesn't describe one service, but several services which offer different functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, as an example, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most of the people see them as one single service. The truth is, every domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, which identifies where the website for the domain name is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain name. As an example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will be sent to the correct server. The reasoning behind using separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you could have your website hosted by one company and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account with our company and you wish to point either your website or your e-mails to a different provider, it's going to take you literally only two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it won't take more than a few clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from our company, you're going to be able to see and change the A and MX records for any one of the domains or subdomains which you host inside the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to take care of the account, comes with an state-of-the-art, though easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to change their records with no more than several clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it will be equally easy - pick the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you will be ready. Additionally, you'll be able to set different priority for the MX records that you create in case you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records apart from the two standard ones. If you experience any troubles, we have a in-depth Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to create or change any record.
